QuickAdvice: Use Visuals To Display Projects With Timeli
Timeli ($2.99) by Caffeine Monster Software is a project and task management app. It uses visuals to display projects and tasks on a timeline, with the philosophy that using timelines makes project planning easier.
The visual representation of projects allows you to see all the projects you’re working on, in what order they are due, and what’s coming up next. Within each timeline, you can create separate tasks. The tasks can be active, complete, and scheduled. In addition you can color coordinate the tasks and set specific lengths for them.
Once a task has been added to the timeline it can be extended, shortened, or rearranged. To adjust a task, you simply drag the handles at the start and end of the timeline to change the start and end dates respectively. To rearrange a task you simply grab the handle bar and drag it to the desired location.
The application offers two ways of viewing tasks and projects; the timeline view and a standard list. While viewing tasks in timeline mode, you use the inspector feature to view and edit the selected timeline.
From any place in the app, you can access the tools (i.e. the app settings, about pages, and help document) and the “today” page. The button to jump to the “today” page is featured in the top left corner of the iOS device.
To create a task for a specific timeline you select the small arrow next to the timeline name. If there are tasks already on the timeline, the number of tasks in the timeline is displayed in place of the arrow. After you click on the arrow (or the number) a task window pops up displaying the pending tasks for the timeline. From here, you can click on the plus sign in the task window to add a new task. The plus option displayed in the top right corner is used only to create timelines, not to add tasks to an already existing timeline.
Overall the app has a very clean and stylish feel to it. This program would be helpful to those who manage multiple projects with individual tasks. With all the competing task and project management programs out there, Timeli does a great job of bringing something unique and practical to the table.
