Hollywood Squares HD Comes To The iPad

February 14, 2011
There was a time when game shows dominated the afternoon television landscape. Although their numbers have dwindled on TV, there has been a resurgence of sorts for them on iDevices. Now, one of the top-rated shows from the 1970’s is back as an iPad app. Ludia Inc. and CBS Mobile have released, Hollywood Squares HD. Just like the recently released The Amazing Race HD and The Bachelor: The Videogame HD, this one is a winner. Based on the famous “tic-tac-toe” game, players get to play against the computer or against a friend. In the process, users see videos from famous “center squares” such as Kathy Griffin, Brad Garrett, Martin Mull, and Jeffrey Tambor.

Host Tom Bergeron asks the celebrities a variety of questions, and players judge whether the responses are true or false. Game play is enhanced with hilarious video of answers from the TV show, filled with outrageous "zingers" and "bluffs" to fuel the fun. Each correct answer earns the player a square on the board, and the first player to mark three squares in a row wins the game. According to Alex Thabet, Founder and CEO of Ludia Inc.:
"Hollywood Squares is one of the most uniquely entertaining game shows, and this game succeeds in capturing the fun and comedy of the original television franchise. We are delighted to offer fans of the show and wider audiences alike a Hollywood Squares game experience that is perfectly suited for the exceptional capabilities of the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad."

Hollywood Squares HD is available for $4.99 in the App Store. An iPhone/iPod touch version is available for $.99.
