Both iPhone 5 and iPad 2 Delayed?
February 22, 2011
Is it possible to delay something that has not been announced yet? According to two Boy Genius Report independent sources, it is quite possible. File this under things you didn’t see coming.
Apple has typically had a February to April arrival window for the iPhone, this has been a part of their predictable annual product upgrade cycles. One BGR source, FBR Capital Markets analyst Craig Berger, now claims a September launch:
For the iPhone 5, we continue to hear that a July launch is unlikely, with various casing suppliers and touch suppliers still ramping up, with some chip vendors not having yet received firm iPhone 5 orders, and with other sockets like the image sensor (most likely going to Omnivision exclusively, but with some potential for Sony to split that socket) still in flux. Given these factors, we think a September launch is more likely...It just so happens Yuanta Securities Co., another BGR source, issued a note on the next iPad:
Our checks suggest new issues are being encountered with the new production and it is taking time to resolve them.If these claims are true, then we might as well forget about the upgrade calendar this year. However, keep in mind that these claims about the the iDevices being delayed are unverifiable. In addition, there was no official announcement for these products, and typically a delay indicates a product will arrive after the announced, scheduled date. I think if there is any truth to the iDevices being pushed back, the ramifications are significant for the entire iOS lineup in 2011. In the meantime, we will keep our eyes and ears peeled.
