Official Version Of Minecraft Coming To iOS Later This Year

February 21, 2011
Indie developer Markus Persson has revealed to Gamasutra that soon you won't have to be tied to your computer to go mining and crafting in the wonderful pixelated world known as Minecraft, as the title will be brought over to iOS later this year. The port is being developed in-house by brand new Mojang team member Aron Neiminen. The iOS version of Minecraft will have the same general look and feel as the original, but it will be treated a little differently. Instead of forcing every last update that the browser and download versions of the game receive into the iOS version, Mojang will be implementing only what "makes sense" for our favorite touch-based mobile platform. Still in its beta stages, Minecraft has sold over 1.3 million copies and has almost five million registered accounts on the official site. If you want to see what all of the fuss is about, you can take Minecraft for a spin at Minecraft.net. Minecraft for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad will be hitting the App Store later this year at an undisclosed price.
