Particula ($0.99) by Dmitriy Kuzmenko is one of the newest physics games for iDevices. The game features electrons, protons, and neutrons combined into "electrostatic puzzles." Electrostatics is the science of stationary or slow moving electric charges, and that is the theme of the game. Particula starts out with very simple puzzles that explain the basics of the game. The objective of every level is to send a charge from one source to another. Each level has stars that the user can attempt to collect while sending a charge. The levels become progressively harder by introducing more obstacles and different types of charges.

Lately there have been many “physics” games released on the app store, all with their own pros and cons. However, we don't often see original concepts. Particula brings a new idea to the table, by introducing magnets. If you put aside the interface, objects and colors, what you are really doing is aiming and shooting. The originality comes into play when you begin using the magnets. This is an interesting and refreshing element in an iOS game.

The game increases in difficulty by introducing more than one target or obstacle, along with many other features. Once the user progresses past the first few levels, they will begin to see this. The levels are challenging, I found myself replaying the same levels numerous times before I could complete them. It is very easy to become frustrated and give up on this game. But, once you really understand how it works, it can be a lot of fun.

Overall Particula is a great game and offers plenty of challenging puzzles with a unique theme and mechanics.
