Pennant For iPad Brings Over 55 Years Of Baseball Data To Life

Pennant is a brand new iPad app by Stephen Varga that allows you to browse through and view data from every Major League Baseball game that took place between 1952 and 2010. It may have taken Varga almost an entire year to come up with and perfect a way to deliver over 115,000 games worth of data, but from the looks of things, it was time very well spent.
From the moment you launch Pennant, you will realize the amount of thought and care that went into the app. The default screen displays every MLB team that has existed since 1952 in a Cover Flow-like horizontal scrolling list. Beneath the list are two more viewing options, which allow you to view teams in an alphabetical grid or by state. Tapping on a team will start your journey into baseball data heaven.
Via another Cover Flow-like list, you can scroll through each and every year of your favorite team's existence. Each tile displays the year, wins, losses, and win percentage for that year. Near the bottom of the screen you can quickly see how well your team performed year-by-year via an interactive timeline. There are also two more viewing options that give you access to more in-depth stats by year. But that's still only scratching the surface.
As you dig even deeper, you are able to view stats and standings for every game that took place during a given season. Just slide your finger around a rather neat circular timeline to view in detail each event that took place during a game, or allow Pennant to play back each event automatically as if the game was taking place right then and there.
It's truly astonishing to see the amount of data Pennant is able to display via simple charts and timelines, and it's also a blast to work your way through. The only complaint I have is that Pennant is all about the team and not the individual players, as it lacks any real player-specific data besides in-game events.
