NxtApp ($0.99) by ICON, LLC is a great math puzzle game for your iPhone. It tests your ability to quickly solve problems mentally while timing you for your best score. The game is very simple; you have several categories to choose from. Each category is a different type of math; you will find anything from basic addition and subtraction to powers and multiplication. The premise of the game is to solve the problems in your head. If you think you’re clever using a calculator and getting your answers instantly, you’re not fooling anyone.
Once you choose a category and begin, you will be presented with a pattern of numbers and a missing slot. Every second that goes by is being recorded, and the longer you take the lower your score will be. The user must quickly figure out what the pattern is, and then apply it to the previous number before the empty slot. Once you have figured it out, there is a numerical keyboard at the bottom of the screen that let’s you plug your answer in, and go on to the next one. Each category has 10 stars; to finish a category you must answer 10 questions correctly in sequence. However, if you answer a question wrong, regardless of which one you are on, you have to start over.
The game is very challenging; it is a little frustrating that you have to start over if you answer something incorrectly. This makes it more difficult, but since you only have to answer 10 questions, its probably not unreasonable.
Overall this is a great new math game for your iPhone. It is educational and helps you practice your arithmetic skills. So, if you are looking for a breather from a typical day of launching birds, this could be it.
