Have A Vast Portal Of Video Game Information At Your Fingertips With Gamerami

February 25, 2011
Gamerami ($0.99) by Ballpark Apps Ltd is an app that aggregates information for over 11,000 games on your iPhone and iPad.

I'm a pretty busy person. I'm balancing my last semester of classes at a university and I'm working in multiple places. I don't have much time for games anymore. But when I do have a game to look forward to, sometimes I don't really have the energy to do research on whether it's good or not. But that's until I found out about Gamerami.

Gamerami will launch into a screen where you can select from the six most popular current formats for video games on the iPhone. These formats are: 360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP, and PC. On the iPad version (this app is universal), you get to choose between this "Retro" version or the Pro version (exclusive to the iPad). The Pro version allows you to apply filters to fine tune your results.

Selecting a format will present you with a list of games. The list of games on the iPhone will be a mix of new, old, and upcoming titles. Prices from Amazon will be revealed if available, which is nice, and average meta review scores as well if there is one to be shown. If you're using it on the iPad and using the Pro version, you have more control over what you will find in the title list.

Find a game you like? Tap on it and the card will flip over and reveal a summary of the game (if available), as well as buttons to take you to screenshots, videos, and reviews of the game. Additionally, you can send out a tweet or update on Facebook on anything interesting you may find that you would want to share with friends.

Gamerami allows you to search past titles, which is handy if you have a particular game in mind. The app also allows you to aggregate all the latest news from N4G and Planet XBOX 360. The Safari icon will open the article in the in-app browser, and you can share the links on Twitter or Facebook. Articles can be saved for later using Instapaper's service.

While it's nice to have the latest news, I really hope to see more sources being aggregated in the app besides just N4G and Planet XBOX 360. I would like to see stuff like IGN, Game Pro, GameInformer, and other reputable video game news sources. Also, some people don't use Instapaper, so I think adding Read It Later support would be nice.

The Settings tab will allow you to log in to your Facebook and Twitter accounts, configure Instapaper, and choose your currency. In the iPad version, you can switch between Retro and Pro modes, and also select how big your feed size will be.

Gamerami provides the basic info you need when looking for games, and does it in a very well-designed interface that is great to look at. I believe it needs more news sources though, and Read It Later support to complete the experience. But this is a nice little app to have around when looking for the next game to pick up.

If you want a nice little game database to go where you go, then check out Gamerami. The full version is $1, but there is also a Lite version for you to try before committing.
