Get Quirky And Fun Photos With iDarkroom On Your iPhone
iDarkroom ($0.99) by Maple Studio is an app to create unique looking photographs using various unique effects.
It's undeniable that the iPhone changed how people took pictures. It made photo editing easy and fast. There are now a ton of photo editing apps proliferating the App Store, but I'm here to tell you about another one that should be added to your photography arsenal: iDarkroom.
iDarkroom will allow you to load up a photo from your device Photo Library, or you can take a new photo from within the app. Once there's a photo, the fun really begins.
iDarkroom splits up the effects into six categories: Color Filters, Paper, Light Leak and Bokeh, Vignette, Noise, and Frame effects.
The color filters are what you would expect: filters that simply change the color, mood and tone of the photo. Examples are cross-process, sepia, black and white, faded, CP colors, Vivid, and more.
Paper effects allow you to add a texture to the image. Some samples are cardboard, canvas, sand, and wallpaper, along with plenty of others.
Light leak and bokeh allow the user to add different light effects to the photo. There are four different vignette effects instead of the traditional kind, which admittedly, gets boring after being used repeatedly over time.
There are three different noise effects, which add a unique texture to your image. The most drastic one would be the peeling, in my opinion, because the look of peeling wallpaper applied to your photo is pretty cool. The Scratch is also pretty drastic, while the Grunge is more subtle. To finish off the photo, you can choose one of seven frames to wrap your photo in.
Additionally, it can be take time to go through all of these effects and find the ones you like. iDarkroom also provides a random shuffle, which can be activated with the dice button on the top menu bar. This will give you a random combination of effects in unique combinations - both good and bad. It can be fun to go through it a few times and see what pops up.
All of your photos can be saved and shared by email, Facebook, or Twitter. The app settings allow you to toggle the "Save Original" option, choose your resolution size (full resolution support), and log in to your Facebook and Twitter. There are links to rate the app, contact the developers, or view more apps.
This app has become one of my favorite apps to use because of the variety of effects. Though I wish that there was a way to adjust how strong any effect is - perhaps a slider option would be possible in a future update? I hope to see one. There could also be more frame and noise effects, which seem a bit lacking compared to the number of options for the other effects.
If you're an iPhoneography afficiando, then give iDarkroom a shot. It's fast, smooth, and has plenty of options to make any photo look amazing. And the best thing? It's only $1.
