QuickAdvice: Spread Valentine's Day Cheer With Postage ~ Romance
Postage ~ Romance ($0.99) by RogueSheep is a custom Valentine card maker for your iPhone and iPod Touch.
Valentine's Day is less than a week away, and what better time to create and send some custom Valentine cards to your friends and family? Postage ~ Romance edition provides plenty of frame options to make your Valentine greeting look good.
After you're greeted with a splash screen, you'll be prompted to select one of 15 Valentine themed frames by swiping left and right. Each one is unique and looks great in the final product, so there's sure to be a few styles you'll like to use again and again to send out. There is also a little link to let you see what other frames you can get in the premium version of the regular Postage app.
Once you get your Valentine frame selected, it's time to put in a picture. Postage allows you to snap a new photo, import from your Photo Library, or paste in a photo from your device clipboard. Once the photo is in the frame, you can move it, rotate it, or zoom in/out to frame it nicely in your card.
Postage also has a couple of filters that you can apply to your image to enhance it. Filters include: Normal, B&W, Sepia, Brighten, Glow, Contrast, Soften, Inverted, Red, Green, and Blue. There isn't any additional control over these filters, but that's not really the point of the app. These filters just make your card look more cutesy for the occasion. The only drawback is that you can only pick one filter to apply - there isn't a way to apply multiple filters, so you've been warned.
Additionally, some frame styles allow you to enter text. For text, Postage gives you a good selection of fonts (including the romantic Zapfino!), choose your alignment and font size (smaller or larger), and color.
When you're done with your awesome digital Valentine card, you can share it via several options: Email, Facebook, and Twitter. The card can also be saved to your Camera Roll or Copy it to the device clipboard. As a bonus, if you share it on Facebook or Twitter, you get a beautiful manilla envelope graphic that adds to the feeling of sending a postcard, just done digitally.
Everything about Postage ~ Romance (and any edition of Postage, really) is beautifully designed, just like the digital postcards themselves. The animations and transitions from screens is smooth and flows very well.
My only irk is that on the frame selection screen, the graphics are not optimized for Retina Display. At first I was thinking I was going to be disappointed with the rest of the app, but it seems that this problem is only limited to the frame selection. Not sure why this is - if the rest of the app is Retina optimized, I see no reason why this part of the app isn't. I also hope that being able to add multiple filters could be implemented at some point, but that's not a huge issue.
Time's running out, so make sure you send those closest to you a friendly Valentine's greeting, or pick up the regular Postage if Valentine's just isn't your thing.
