Review: Cooties - Having Cooties Has Never Been So Good

Cooties are invading and attacking your vital organs, and you’ll need all your finger tapping and swiping multi-touch skills to beat back the cooties. It turns out the Appendix is a little jealous of not being a vital organ, and wants to play a bigger role, but the Liver, Heart, and Brain say no. Albert the Appendix then gathers cooties to lead a full on assault against the so called vital organs.
The game plays as a 2D castle defense game where you need to protect 360 degrees. You begin protecting Louie the Liver, then Harvey the Heart, and finally Bob the Brain with each one in the center of the screen, and cooties coming at them in all directions. There are five chapters per organ, and there is also an infinity survival mode for each one, and the game uses crystal and game center for online high scores and achievements.
Cooties includes a deluxe storyline with comic book style cut scenes that offers humor, and progresses nicely. As you progress you face tougher and tougher cooties with each type requiring a different tactic to get rid of them. You will need to tap, swipe, tap and hold, swipe then tap and hold to get rid of various cooties that come at you together and constantly.
The game is effortless to control which is essential to deal with the number of cooties on screen all requiring different methods of disposal. Multi-touch is also included so you can tap on multiple cooties or play with a friend. Thankfully there are power-ups as well like anti-bodies and the likes to get rid of specific cooties.
Cooties has a very cute art style, and everything is polished so well from the animations of destroying the cooties, or the cut scene story boards. The game is designed very well for kids with the cute art style, and some of the knowledge of the inner working of the immune system. It’s also great for adults with non-stop action, and plenty of challenge with newly introduced cooties, and the sheer number of them.
The game does end pretty quickly with only 15 levels, but it seems so short because you want more. The game’s story, infinity modes, and online high scores and achievements add to the replay factor though. The best aspect is the variability with multiple enemy types on screen at once each requiring different tactics.
Cooties is a should buy for only $1.99 that is enjoyable from start to end for all ages. Now when someone alleges you have cooties, you’ll proudly respond, “Yes, I do have Cooties, and I like it”.
