ActionNotes Brings Style And Simplicity To iPad Note-Taking
ActionNotes ($2.99) by Netwalk is a new iPad note-taking app with a straightforward mission: to replace the Notes app that comes with the iPad.
With seemingly endless App Store selections that purport to help you take notes, manage your time, and stay on task, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. You need to find one that suits your needs.
If you are looking for a simple, intuitive, and attractive replacement for the bare bones app that came preinstalled, ActionNotes is a good option to consider.
Action Notes looks like a nice day planner, equipped with six colored tabs. With a tap you can enter tasks and notes easily, and assign them to a specific color-coded section.
The intuitive interface and easy to find instructions make it a cinch to select which notes require action and create a to-do list from them. You can highlight notes with a tap too.
ActionNotes claims to be stylish and the email template is a gorgeous example. But, the only sharing feature is email.
Don’t expect syncing, importing or exporting events to other calendar apps, nor any reminders, aside from those you send yourself.
You should also know that while the icon and layout look like a day planner, ActionNotes is not a calendar app. Its only function is note taking.
Netwalk explains, “we're not trying to offer the ultimate Notes app that has more features than you'll ever need, just a note pad [that] … is more useful.”
Some of the things I was going to say are missing are already in the works. Expect an update coming soon to include the ability to label the tabs, change the date, and best of all, Dropbox integration. With those changes forthcoming my wish list is small: push notifications and the ability to use more or fewer tabs.
Some additional, less vivid color-options for tabs and backgrounds would be welcome too.
Netwalk is responsive to user feedback, and willing to add features if there is demand, but the objective of ActionNotes is simplicity.
I see this as a great app for high school or college. The binder-like divisions are perfect for multiple courses.
If you are searching for an all-in-one solution to manage your tasks, schedules, to-dos, and notes, this is not the right choice for you.
If, however, you are in the market for an attractive, straightforward, notepad, ActionNotes is worth checking out. Sometimes less is more.
