Apple's Phil Schiller: No iPad 2 Keyboard Dock

March 28, 2011
You might think that following the release of the new iPad dock, there would be an iPad 2 keyboard dock too. Unfortunately, that's not the case. In reply to a customer email, Phil Schiller, Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing, has suggested that Apple won’t be making a Keyboard Dock for the iPad 2. According to 9to5Mac, here is the conversation between Schiller and the user:
User: "From what I’ve heard, the Apple keyboard dock is not made for the iPad 2. Is there an iPad 2 version that I can’t find on your online store – or is it coming soon?" Schiller: "People prefer to use the iPad’s built in soft keyboard most all of the time, it works very well. Those that do choose to use an external keyboard most often choose to use Apple’s bluetooth wireless keyboard for the convenience it provides."
As you can see, Schiller doesn't directly answer the user's question, but did suggest that most users prefer to use the device’s soft keyboard. Fortunately, Apple’s iPad Keyboard Dock works properly with the iPad 2, as does the original iPad Dock, so you shouldn't worry too much if that is a deciding factor for you. Do you prefer the iPad's built in soft keyboard most of the time?
