The iPad 2: Faster Delivery Overseas [Updated]

March 24, 2011
Online orders for the iPad 2 have begun in Australia and New Zealand, and already we are seeing shipping delays. Apple.com is reporting a “2 to 3 weeks” shipping timeframe for both counties. But those estimates are better than what new U.S. customers are receiving. The iPad 2, which becomes available on March 25 in 25 additional countries, is already a huge success with an estimated 1 million units already sold in the U.S. Since Apple typically maintains separate distribution chains for its North American, European, and Asian markets, discrepancies sometimes exist. For example, while Australian and New Zealand customers are awaking to the “2 to 3 weeks” timeframe, new online purchases made in the U.S. remain stuck at “4 to 5 weeks.” (Note: U.S. orders are now listed as having a "3 to 4 weeks" delay.) Keep in mind, these numbers are just estimates. The actual shipping time could be shorter, depending on your situation. However, one thing is certain: those timeframes will only be growing, at least in the short term. Therefore, the earlier you make an online order, the better.
