The iPhone 5: A Larger Screen Looks More And More Likely
March 22, 2011
A new rumor from The China Times suggests the iPhone 5 will include a metal chassis for improved signal reception and a four-inch touch screen. If true, this rumor is in line with others, which have been noted in recent days.
The release of the next-generation smart phone, which Apple is almost certain to announce in June, continues to attract almost daily rumors now that the iPad 2 has been released.
Each new iPhone 5 rumor suggests an iDevice similar to the current iPhone 4 model with two important differences: materials and screen size.
The iPhone 5 will “move away from the back-glass enclosure” and move to something similar to the back of the first-generation iDevice, released in 2007.
However, the most obvious difference seems to be the size of the next-generation iDevice. The iPhone 4 comes with a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display. By contrast, The China Times and others believe the iPhone 5 will include a four-inch screen.
The iPhone 5 will also include Apple’s new A5 processor, which comes with the iPad 2.
Assuming Apple follows past practice, the iPhone 5 should be announced in late May or early June, with a U.S. release date sometime later.
