Isn't That Photo Nice? Flickr Could Make Native iPad Apps Unnecessary

March 18, 2011
Flickr, the photo-sharing site, is showing some love to iPad owners. Visitors to the Yahoo-owned site can now view photos through a full browser viewer in mobile Safari, according to the Flickr Blog. The change makes using a Flickr-enabled app less necessary. Proving web apps aren't dead yet, Flickr has made it more enjoyable for visitors to its site to view photos from family, friends, and other members of the site. On the iPad, go to any Flickr photo page using mobile Safari, and tap on a photo to make it larger. The photo will now be sitting on a dark, clean background, almost like it is framed. Best of all, you'll be able to “quickly swipe it between photos, add to your favorites, and share with friends and family gathered around you.”

Check out these changes by viewing your favorite photos, your photostream, or the latest updates from your contacts in the new light box. Unofficial Flickr apps such as Flickr Studio, Photo Pad: Flickr, and Flickpad Pro already bring Flickr photo-sharing to the iPad. However, these changes could make them less necessary. Plus, save users some money. What do you think? Leave your comments below.
