Amazon Mobile App: You Can Now Scan Barcodes Using An iPod Touch Too

March 24, 2011
The Amazon Mobile iPhone/iPod touch app was updated today. The 1.4.0 update improves a user's ability to scan a product’s barcode to see if Amazon offers the same item and at what price. This new feature now works on the iPod touch (4th generation) for the first time, plus the iPhone 4 and 3GS running iOS4. The update also includes sharing capabilities. Imagine walking into a Best Buy store and noticing the iMac you’ve long wanted to purchase. Before buying the item, you could use the app to see if there is a cheaper price for the item at Amazon.com. All you need to do is select the “Search” option at the bottom of the app, then select “Scan a Barcode.” Within seconds of lining up the item’s barcode with your iPhone’s camera, the app will show you the price of the item you’ve selected at the Amazon.com website. It’s that simple! Sure, the clerk at the store might give you nasty looks, since you’ll need an iMac box to check the prices, but so what? It could save you money. Finally, you can now send and share links to interesting products you find on Amazon. Use e-mail, SMS, Facebook or Twitter to share with your friends. The free Amazon Mobile app is available in the App Store.
