Mr.Ninja ($0.99) by PONOS is a new fast paced game to hit the app store. Having been recently released, it has already earned a spot in Apple’s “New and Noteworthy” listing. As with many other successful and upcoming apps, simplicity seems to be an important component. Mr. Ninja certainly will not be confusing any users with complicated controls or objectives.

The game takes place throughout the “Karakuri Castle,” where aliens have invaded, and it is your job to eliminate them. Your weapon of choice is a katana, a Japanese sword.

Users begin on a spinning black wheel, with a dotted white line as a guide. There is only one control throughout the game, a simple tap. When tapped, the character will jump in the direction of the white dotted line.

If any aliens lie in the path at this point, they will be sliced and diced with your katana. When users jump from a black wheel they are trying to land on the next one. The game's difficulty increases by alternating the distance and size of the black wheels. In addition to that, the wheels all spin at different speeds.

Mr. Ninja is one of those simple titles that has high replay value and infinite game play. With no official “levels” or anything of the sort, continuous play is offered instead. Other titles such as Doodle Jump and Papi Jump have been very successful with this style as well. However, this does not mean the game lacks. Users do have the opportunity to master the game and unlock all three game modes. They can also share with Facebook, Twitter, and Game Center leader boards.

The game mechanics couldn’t possibly be any simpler, even though it does become much more difficult later in the game. As far as the other aspects go, the game is well designed and operates smoothly. With one and only one control, anyone is capable of enjoying this title. Altogether, Mr. Ninja is making an impression in the App Store, and is definitely worth checking out.
