Unofficial iOS 4.3.1 Tethered Jailbreak Is Already Available
March 27, 2011
Despite Apple's recent increased efforts to thwart jailbreaking, the jailbreak community has been doing very well at circumventing the limitations and coming up with new ways to break into Apple's new firmware. Despite releasing two new versions of iOS in the last few weeks; iOS 4.3 and this week 4.3.1, both versions have already been jailbroken.
For everyone who already updated to 4.3.1 and would like to take advantage of everything the new Cydia has to offer, there is a way. However, the downside is that this is not the official clean jailbreak solution you might be used to. The dev team has yet to release proper tools for this. If you're ready to get your hands dirty, you can now achieve a tethered jailbreak of Apple's latest iOS firmware.
RedmondPie has a step-by-step tutorial on their site explaining how to achieve the feat. It will take the latest version of PwnageTool, as well as a couple of other tools to modify it so it will function with iOS 4.3.1. The guide is aimed at the iPhone 4, but it reportedly can also be applied to the iPod touch and the original iPad. You can find the guide here.
Let us warn you that this is a tethered jailbreak, so you will need the assistance of a computer to reboot the device properly. Also, there is still no unlock for iOS 4.3.1, so updating to that firmware using the regular method will compromise your ability to unlock.
