What Will Apple Do? Dropbox Allows Integration With iFile Jailbreak App
April 12, 2011
According to their Twitter feed, iFile has received approval from Dropbox to include its API in its jailbreak app. This is huge news not just for iFile, but also for the jailbreak community in general. With a big service like Dropbox on board, it further legitimizes jailbreak apps. However, will Apple ultimately squash this arrangement?
The iFile app is a Finder solution for the iPhone that lets users browse their iDevice’s native file system. Dropbox integration, which is likely to happen at some point, would make the app more convenient, since it would allow the sharing of iDevice information with the popular web-based hosting site.
This news comes one week after Toyota announced it would start using Cydia as an advertising tool. However, after receiving pressure from Apple, Toyota quickly ended the advertising arrangement with the jailbreak application.
It will be interesting to see if Apple puts similar pressure on Dropbox. After all, the service is already integrated into quite a few apps in the App Store.
Would they risk the wrath of Apple over this? What do you think? Leave your comments below.
