Apple Patents The iPad Air Vent - Forget The Toasting Apps

April 5, 2011
As our iPads get faster and more powerful, they're also likely to get hotter. Or, at least that seems what Apple is preparing for thanks to a new patent. Spotted by the eagled-eyed Patently Apple, last month a new iPad design, featuring a baffle on its back was patented by Apple. Clearly intended to allow for air exchange, it will ensure that your device stays at a tablet-safe temperature. After having many victims of older generation MacBook Pros, I guess that's a safe card for Apple to play. This does, however, kill all our hopes of a possible iPad toasting app. All jokes aside, I can't honestly imagine Apple putting holes in its iPad. It would feel strange, and make it much more likely that you would get nasty things like dust, food or even liquids inside the device. After all, the iPad is supposed to be safe to use everywhere, right? I haven't experienced any overheating issues so far. Who knows though, that time might come. Who's in for the iPad air vent?
