Bird Zapper! ($0.99) by Namco Networks America Inc. Challenge your matching skills and finger speed in this fast-paced and crazy bird game! This game will have you addicted in no time, as you try to zap the birds off the electrical wire.
In Bird Zapper! there are different types of birds and they have all hijacked the electrical lines. Your goal is to help Skippy the Squirrel “zap” them off the power lines. Match up three or more of the same type of bird and quickly swipe your finger across them. If you are successful, they are zapped off the wire. Along the way, there are special birds that allow you to do different things, such as the ice cube bird. When you touch this bird, the lines will all freeze, and you have more time to figure out your best move. There are other cool birds that come along like some who are wearing hats. Zap them and you will move into sniper mode where you can eliminated the birds individually only with a tap. If you catch three or more joker birds, they will activate a tilt feature, which will control the speed of the game. This is helpful to slow down the birds and allows you to arrange a long lineup for maximum points. There are several other special birds that also provide some cool power ups. This keeps the game interesting.
There are three different game modes, but all of them are very similar. Survival mode has an energy bar that you have to keep watch on, and it recharges as you zap the birds. This level gradually gets more challenging by adding more lines and going faster. In Blitz mode, the birds move really fast and electrical lines are added during play. The Zen mode is fairly relaxed, you do not lose power and the game never really ends. Before you begin, this mode allows you to choose three, four or five rows of birds.
The graphics are amazing and the sound effects are a hoot! Every time you zap a series of birds, they make a screeching sound, based on their species. In addition to the sound effects, the music is fun and hard to get out of your head once you turn the game off.
Bird Zapper! is great for a quick play game that does not require a lot of thinking. It would be appropriate for most ages, except young children. There is some fantasy violence as you zap or kill the birds. Even though Bird Zapper! is repetitive, it is very fun. There are enough modes to keep you challenged, and the replay value is high because no two games are exactly alike.
