Birzzle ($0.99) by Enfeel Inc. is another puzzle game with more cute birds. It seems Angry birds has forever left its impact on the App Store, the popular theme for any new game has become something to do with birds. But you won’t be slinging birds across your screen or jumping them from hill to hill in this app. Birzzle takes after the classic title Bejeweled, with a hint of Tetris. Birds fall onto your screen while you quickly try to rearrange them so that three or more are touching.
Players earn points by eliminating the birds. To do this, align three or more birds of the same kind. Moving birds is simple, just drag the birds across the screen and drop them where you want. Aligning three birds will cause them to pop and then disappear. Eliminating three birds is easy; the challenge is to eliminate four or more at one time, which will create a power-up bird. This bird is outlined with a special animated border and pops surrounding birds when aligned with its own kind again.
As you pop birds your score is recorded in a bar at the top of the screen. Fill the bar to reach the next level. The higher the levels, the faster rows of birds are dropped (in the Tetris-like manner). But that’s not all! There are also special birds, like the lock bird, which cannot be moved once dropped. The first level is designed like a grace period, where no birds are dropped. This is handy for first-time users to learn the controls in a pressure free environment. The game ends when the whole screen is filled with birds. Scores are tallied and can be shared through GameCenter.
Birzzle is a fun, fast-paced game for everyone. The controls are simple, the gameplay is entertaining, and it has a high replay value.
