When I first opened Shapemix, a helpful tutorial started up and was quick and easy to get through. Once I finished, I saw a series of colorful circles on the screen, each positioned randomly. As I pushed play, the music began. I was instructed to double-touch a circle in order to adjust the settings for the piece of music that circle represented. It was addicting. By repositioning the circles on the screen, levels changed. I could do this for a long time.
Mixing the tunes with the colorful circles is fun, but if you want even more control, head over to the traditional mixing board. Switch between the two mixing rooms seamlessly, then hit record when you like what you've got. Oh, and the BPM is adjustable, even in the middle of recording!
The preset songs are well done and the graphics are beautiful. Katie, from Shapemix Music LLC, says their average user spends an hour per session on Shapemix. That's pretty incredible considering that most people zip in and out of apps after just a few minutes.
I love that you get access to 100 free tracks with this app. Just create a quick profile then download as many of those 100 tracks as you wish. Once you've mixed and finished your masterpiece, share your song on Facebook, Twitter or Shapemix.com.
In future, I would love to see the option of importing one's own, original music for fun remixes. This would add to the fun and create even more endless possibilities.
