Paint Fighter ($0.99) by Would-Be Lab is a colorful strategy game for players who enjoy a challenge. The goal is simple; capture the majority of the cells on the game field. Players capture cells by “painting” their cells the same color as the adjacent ones they wish to capture.

The game begins with you controlling the bottom left corner cell and your enemy controlling the top right corner cell. Users pick a color to repaint their cells by tapping on one of the colored boxes at the bottom of the screen. You repaint your cells each turn, hopefully gaining adjacent cells. Players cannot choose the same color twice in a row, or the color of their opponent. These easy controls allow Paint Fighter to attract players of all ages.

The app has two game-play modes. In the single-player mode, players battle against the “intelligent machine.” This machine is the perfect difficulty; it is beatable but not too easy. Players can also challenge a friend with the two-player mode. There are 10 levels of games ranging from Warm-up (5 colors and 99 cells) to Nightmare (8 colors and 1824 cells). Players progress to the next level after beating the previous one in the round mode. They can also choose to play only a certain level. Replaying a level is not repetitive, as each game is totally unique.

At the end of each round scores are totaled. However the app does not have a high-score list, nor is there syncing with GameCenter or OpenFeint. I would like to see these features added in future updates.

Overall, Paint Fighter is an easy yet entertaining game with a high replay value. The simple controls take a minute to learn but the game entertains for hours.
