Follow The Beat In ReRave, The Latest Rhythmic Game

April 7, 2011
ReRave ($1.99) by Step Evolution is an interactive experience that introduces new elements into rhythmic games. Unlike previous titles that have a limited way of interrupting musical patterns, ReRave adds movement into the picture by allowing users to not only tap and hold buttons to the beat of the music, but to move around on the screen. The game comes with three standard songs and also has one free song pack for users to download. Other song packs range in difficulty, genre and price. The controls are very similar to other rhythmic titles, and this game really isn't much more innovative than other similar titles. Users are presented with a circle that they must tap to the beat, and in some instances, the user must tap several times or hold the tap for a longer period. In this regard, the game is very similar to Rock Band or Guitar Hero and other rhythmic games. In fact, the only thing even slightly different from other rhythmic games is that sometimes when holding, users must follow the button across the screen. The levels are as long as the song, but the songs are not very long, only ranging from three to five minutes. There is a difficulty setting which increases the amount of taps and holds users will encounter throughout the game. This also adjusts how fast users will encounter new taps and holds. However, when you are only given six songs (including your free song pack) the game does loose replay-ability quickly, especially if you find yourself struggling with the easier levels and can not enjoy the more difficult ones. The description boasts that there is endless entertainment, but unless you’re absolutely in love with house music and these particular songs, you’ll find yourself bored quite quickly. ON a positive note, however, the graphics and user interface is very appealing and well thought out. The game could be polished up in many different areas and for now isn’t worth the download but could be in a future update.
