It is very realistic, and provides helpful and educational information while you enjoy a relaxing game. Currently this app only runs on iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch third generation and above.
The graphics are refreshing as they are more realistic than cartoon-like. They are hand painted making them pleasing to the eye.
The object of the game is to catch different insects that frogs like to eat, so you can feed the frogs when they come out of hiding. There are flies, grasshoppers, snails, butterflies and dragonflies. Some of the frogs are large, and really eat up your bug supply. When you find a frog, you have to quickly feed it all the different bugs before it hops away. Once the frog is full, you can catch it and learn about its size and type. The first time you catch a new species, a pop-up appears with detailed information on the frog or toad. As you catch all these frogs, you will begin to fill in a frog picture puzzle.
When I first started the game, I thought it was a little dull. Before I realized it, I had been playing for over 30 minutes. As I went along, it became more and more interesting as I looked in trees, behind brush and on the ground for those little croaky critters. I think this is a great educational app for children, without all of the silly music and cartoons of other apps.
Frog Minutes may even help a child wind down after a long day. The sound effects are calming, and successfully catching frogs will end the day in a positive way. The music incorporates real wildlife sounds and a soft female voice. The built-in frog encyclopedia will speak to you throughout the game explaining the name and details of each frog. Frog Minutes is very soothing and relaxing unlike many other games available for kids.
