iOS Apps Gone Free: ToonPAINT, Drop!, You Need A Map, And More

April 10, 2011

Today's AGF list includes an app that allows you to turn any image into a cartoon drawing, a tilt-based parachuting game, a map app that doesn't require a cellular signal, and more.

All app prices are subject to change at any time and without notice regardless of stated free duration. Price changes are solely under the control of the developers.

iPhone:

ToonPAINT ($1.99 -> Free, 4.1 MB): ToonPAINT is more than just a cartoon image filter, as it allows you to customize the process in a variety of ways and put your own little creative touches on the image. Images can be imported from your library or you can take a brand new one. They can also be painted by hand or filled in automatically, although the latter option comes at a cost ($.99).

ToonPAINT is available for free today only (04/10). It has a 4-star rating with a total of 291 ratings.

Drop! ($.99 -> Free, 17.5 MB): Avoid all of the obstacles as you fall from the sky by tilting your device to keep your parachute intact. The game features Retina graphics, four worlds, unique obstacles in each world, and Game Center integration.

Drop! is available for free today only (04/10). It has a 4-star rating with a total of 10 ratings.

Run Like Hell! Deluxe ($.99 -> Free, 60.9 MB): The native tribesmen are after you, so you must Run Like Hell and avoid obstacles in order not to get caught in this distance game. It features a story mode with mini-games, five endless and time trial modes, and Game Center integration.

Run Like Hell! Deluxe is available for free today only (04/10). It has a 4-star rating with a total of 9 ratings.

iDrop Dead ($.99 -> Free, 6.8 MB): The object of the game is to inflict as much damage upon your ragdoll as possible by throwing it around obstacle-filled levels. The game features 18 levels with different goals, five worlds, nine characters, four game modes, and achievements to obtain.

iDrop Dead is available for free for a limited time. It has a 3.5-star rating with a total of 910 ratings. Universal:

You Need A Map ($2.99 -> Free, 1.8 GB): This map app works everywhere even without a cellular signal since all of the data is contained on your iDevice, which is why it's such a large app (1.8 GB). It covers all 50 states and displays not only roads but also terrain, streams, lakes, and landmarks. It also includes shaded terrain, custom lighting direction, seven levels of zoom, editable waypoints, and much more.

You Need A Map is available for free for the month of April. It has a 4-star rating with a total of 24 ratings.

SpikeDislike ($.99 -> Free, 10.1 MB): Bounce as far as you can without running into spikes to achieve the highest possible score. The game features two modes, four speeds, random and set paths, 16 different themes, and Game Center integration.

SpikeDislike is available for free until April 13th. It has a 4.5-star rating with a total of 3 ratings. Developers: If you are a developer who would like to get your app included in our “Apps Gone Free” daily lists, here’s our basic set of rules:
  • It must have at least a three-star average rating at the time it goes free.
  • The app must not have been free numerous times (3+) over the last six months.
  • The free version of your app must not include ads.
To submit an app, simply send a request to tyler@appadvice.com with the subject “Apps Gone Free.” Please include the name of the app, a link to it in the App Store, when and for how long you intend to offer the app for free, and anything else you would like to share. We will take it from there.
