The iPad Is Killing U.S. Jobs - Congressman (Video)
April 18, 2011
The iPad has been called many things, but not a job killer until now. According to Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. the best-selling tablet is behind America’s current economic woes, in news first reported by 9 To 5 Mac.
Jackson, who represents the second district in Illinois, recently took to the floor of the U.S. House to carp about the iPad. He stated U.S. jobs were being lost because people have no reason to visit a Borders Books or Barnes & Noble, because you can now download a book on your iDevice instead.
In addition, he criticized Chicago State University, which hopes to become textbook-free within five years. Already, according to Rep. Jackson, the university requires freshman students to arrive on campus with an iPad.
In total, the congressman said that thousands of jobs are gone thanks to the iPad.
However, he also mentioned that he purchased an iPad himself, so take that for whatever it is worth.
Stating the iPad is a jobs killer is like saying cars killed the horse and buggy industry, or television killed the radio. In some respects, Rep. Jackson’s comments are correct, but are they justified? Plus, how many jobs have been created because of the tablet?
