The Best iPhone Apps Of The Week
April 10, 2011
Calorie counting, gaming, and finding stuff to buy online make up the best iPhone apps of the last week.
AppAdvice's iPhone App Of The Week - Meal Snap
Finding the calorie count of any food is now as easy as taking a picture of it. This, thanks to the new iPhone/iPod touch app, MealSnap by the folks at DailyBurn.
Calorie counting can be a difficult process, especially when the item doesn’t come in a box or can. Now the practice is fun, quick, and mostly reliable using the $2.99 app.
Ready to eat those chicken nuggets and fries at your favorite restaurant? Take a picture of the meal using the app, and then add a description to it. Next, the system “magically” detects the nutritional breakdown and automatically adds it to your list of meals for the day.
Gold & Chocolate
Gold & Chocolate by Cocobic is an elegant game and a treat for your eyes. It is something very different, described as an “Aesthetic Breaker.” A game designed to relax your mind and take you to a distant world. On that note, this is no Call of Duty or action packed first person game, but instead, it’s a simple memory game.
The game takes place on a strange world called “Gold & Chocolate.” There is not much color or scenery, just mystical plants and trees with odd little creatures. Throughout every level, users will tilt their device to make a comet or two pass by. As the comets pass, they will illuminate the creatures. They will only stay lit for a moment, and in that moment, you will notice something quite odd.
Burn The Rope
Burn the Rope added an interesting functionality to the list of features this past week. The new “Puzzle of the Day” feature looks to bring new content through daily changing puzzles to accompany those included in the regular game.
Puzzle of the Day is a small group of user submitted puzzles that are chosen by the developer to be created and included in the new section. The Puzzle of the Day area is now available as an option after tapping Play in the main menu. Choose any one of the puzzles and play it as usual, trying to burn away as much of the rope as possible. Once completed, you can rate the level, replay it, or go back to the list.
Fast Customer (Productivity Tool For Busy People)
Few things are more unnerving than calling a company and being placed on hold. Now a new app, Fast Customer (Productivity Tool For Busy People), turns the tables and makes the companies contact you.
Pac’n-Jump
The nostalgic feeling of walking into a room filled with flashing screens, tons of game artwork on the sides of pinball and arcade consoles, and the unmistakeable simplistic sounds of ’80s video games just makes a person smile. One of the longstanding games of all time is Pac-Man. This yellow circle with an eye and triangular mouth that is always chomping is truly iconic to the arcade. There have been a number of ways the franchise has been spiced up, but Namco’s latest release, Pac’n-Jump, sends this dot chomping character to a genre he has never experienced before.
Lifelike Craig
The highly anticipated update to the Lifelike Craig HD app has been released and is now available in the App Store. The update makes the Craigslist browsing app universal, meaning it will work on any iOS device. Best of all, it works amazingly well with the iPad 2′s camera. (Universal)
