Take Your iPhone Underwater With Submerged
Submerged ($0.99) by Quantum Cogs is an underwater photography app, capable of distorting reality in real time. The app simulates what things would look if you were submerged in water. Users can wobble, shake, twist, and wave their devices in any direction to watch the madness unfold.
The distortion actually has a bit of momentum to it, when users wobble or shake their device it continues to move for a few seconds. The distortion can be paused at any given point. This means that whatever distortion is currently on the screen can be saved and used later. The app also lets users capture a specific picture and distort it however they like. Users can also select previously taken pictures from the Photos app and edit them in the application. An original picture can be distorted and resaved back to the camera roll.
For a photography app, the Submerged real-time feature makes it very impressive. Not too many apps use real-time previewing. More commonly we see apps that take pictures and let users edit them, which makes them just editing software as opposed to a real photography app.
When a picture is taken, users immediately have the option of sharing it on Facebook, sending it via email, or saving it right to their camera roll. This makes archiving your photos much easier and doesn’t require another app to share them. However, in a future update it would be nice to see support for Dropbox. Dropbox support is appearing in more and more apps, and is becoming a standard for saving things online.
Overall, Submerged is a great app and can be tons of fun. With enough practice you can recreate almost any photo booth effect and create your own masterpiece. For $.99; this is a photography app that everyone should have.
