Ellen's Know or Go ($1.99) by Warner Bros. is a trivia game that has been adapted from a segment on the Ellen DeGeneres show. Know or Go is one of her favorite games, and in this app you are the contestant.
This is a simple trivia game with a humorous twist. Your character stands on a platform and is challenged with a question. You are given four choices, if you choose correctly you move on. If you are incorrect, you fall through the floor and disappear, which is hilarious!
You earn achievements along the way, such as lifesavers, which give the option to eliminate two of the four possible answers. The game can only be played in portrait mode, probably because it is the best way for the graphics to fit on the screen.
Choosing your own character in the game adds a touch of pizzazz. You can use any of the pre-loaded faces, or you can upload a photo and insert your own. There are male and female characters, along with several wardrobe changes available. You can also choose the background music from the library on your device. There are 600 questions in seven different categories and three levels of difficulty. The iPad version gives you 200 more questions and the option to fall from cliffs, icebergs and pirate ship planks.
Between rounds, Ellen is sure to make you chuckle with her witty banter, the same way she does on her TV show. After I played a few rounds, it started to get a little boring. The game is more challenging and competitive when you play against another person.
There are options to connect to another iPad via Bluetooth, create a new character, play on the same iPad, or be assigned another player in Game Center. This makes it a little more exciting for parties and get-togethers.
If you consider yourself a trivia buff, you will love Ellen’s Know or Go. Even if you do not watch her show, the game is still very enjoyable.
