Veteran game developer Jeff Vogel, along with his small team at Spiderweb Software, have been busy on an indy turn-based role playing game called Avadon: The Black Fortress. This week, we're learning they're getting ready to launch on the iPad.
Avadon: The Black Fortress is a western-style RPG that looks to share similar elements to Infinite Engine games, like Baldurs Gate, and PC classics, like the Ultima series. The graphical style is done in a top-down perspective; and the game world is filled with various characters to interact with and areas to explore.
The news of the iPad version was first mentioned by Jeff Vogel on his personal blog in a post from January 25, 2011.
"We hope to release it for the Macintosh at the end of February. Then the process of porting it to Windows and the iPad shall commence."Then, this Thursday April 28, a blog post by Vogel revealed that the game is coming to Windows in a week or so and beta testing is already underway for the iPad release:
"I have been putting the final touches on Avadon: The Black Fortress for Windows in the hope of releasing it next week. I have also been shepherding the game through beta-testing on the iPad. The rest of my time has been spent trying to convince myself that I'm not having a heart attack."Here are some of the game's features listed from the Spiderweb Software's page:
Avadon: The Black Fortress Features: *Epic fantasy role-playing adventure in an enormous and unique world. *Four different character classes, with dozens of unique spells and abilities. *Uncover the fascinating history of Avadon and the land of Lynaeus. *Many different endings.
