“Perfected” iPod Lineup Means iPhone 5 Will Be Star Of Apple’s Fall Music Event - Report
April 12, 2011
The iPhone 5 will most likely take center stage at Apple’s annual music event in September, but not for the reason mentioned until now, according to All Things Digital.
Like at last year’s music event, Apple likes to release new iPods ahead of the important holiday season. In fact, it has been doing so since the first iPod debuted in October 2001. However, times have changed. Because of that, Apple is said to be making its next iPhone the star of its fall media event.
According to All Things Digital:
Let’s face it, once you’ve perfected the iPod the way Apple has, there’s only so much you can do to refine it, and we’re at the point now where “thinner” and “smaller” aren’t the impressive achievements they were a few years back. This makes perfect sense. Last year alone, Apple used the fall event to announce products that looked pretty ordinary compared to those from past events. Other than offering a new Shuffle, and smaller nano and touch, Apple’s 2010 line of iPods was largely unchanged. By announcing the iPhone 5 in September, Apple could reenergize one of its most important events and get consumers excited ahead of the crucial holiday shopping season. Still, this assumes that in announcing an iPhone 5 in September, Apple is committed to making the handset available by the end of the year. On this, it looks likely. After all, it would be surprising for Apple to announce something in September, only to delay it until January or later. Reports surfaced earlier this year indicating the iPhone 5 would not debut in June at this year's WWDC, as has been past practice. Apple will use this year's event, which begins June 6 in San Francisco, California, to focus on software enhancements both for OS X and iOS. What do you think? Leave your comments below.
