Pirbot Tests Your Strategy Skills

April 20, 2011

Pirbot ($0.99) by IBERFOUR WORLDWIDE, S.L. is a puzzle and strategy game that is simple at first, but slowly becomes more difficult. The Pirbot character waits for you to build a path, so he can reach the treasure on the other side. If you enjoy a good brain challenge, this app will become very addictive.

The name Pirbot comes from “pirate” and “robot,” which is the main character in the game. He is bouncing up and down, waiting to observe your skills. There is a grid where you place different shaped stones, which create a path from the sword to the treasure chest. This allows Pirbot to make it across safely. As the levels become more difficult, there are more types of stones that need to be worked into place on the path. I found myself using the “undo” button frequently, but for those who like to hit high scores, you lose points taking this route.

The game did get a little annoying while I was waiting for Pirbot to cross the path I just built. I knew the path would work, but I still had to watch Pirbot move around, take wrong turns, circle back and forth, and then finally land at the treasure. I like the idea of watching him move along the path, but the wait was a little long before I could move on to the next level.

The developer recommends you read the help article. I did not find any information that was very helpful, other than basic instructions. I was hoping for a little more insight into the game. After a few rounds of playing, I figured out that I did not have to use all the stones in order to create a workable path. That would have been a nice tip to know a little earlier.

Pirbot has good music and graphics, and it changes depending upon what level you are on. This is nice so a tune does not get stuck in your head after you have moved on to your email. Pirbot also supports OpenFeint and other social networks, so you can share your scores with all of your friends.

For those who can master games like the Rubik’s Cube in 60 seconds or less, Pirbot may be your next greatest challenge.
