Quick Thinking And Fast Tapping Needed To Rescue Profitville HD

Profitville HD ($4.99) by 10tons Ltd is the most compulsively playable puzzle game I seen for iOS in a very long time. I don’t usually start off this way, but first things first: download it.

Profitville HD (available for iPhone and Mac separately), borrows a theme from classic shape sorting games, adds conveyer-belt madness and comes up with a killer new game.

It’s innovative, family friendly and will have you tapping for hours.

Here’s the deal: the once booming Main St in the town of Profitville has been ravaged by mega-marts and needs help to regain its former prosperity.

To save it you make your way, in story mode, through a number of stores and businesses. You sort objects at an increasingly frantic pace, and must earn enough money to rescue them from financial doom. The gameplay is smooth and responsive, the power-ups plentiful and the interface engagingly flawless.

There are trophies to win and success in story mode unlocks survival mode adding lots of replay value.

The developer, 10tons, has a knack for taking popular game concepts and infusing them with new life. Their game, Azkend HD, is one of my favorite matching puzzlers and Grim Joggers is a lead-them-out action puzzler with humor and style. They are a game house I trust.

There is no question Profitville borrows from classic arcade game turned iOS entry Tapper. But, where the new Tapper World Tour is encumbered with a heavy GUI and only thematic variations, Profitville HD is fluid, and each new level brings fresh challenges.

I don't mean to take anything away from Tapper World Tour HD. I reviewed it favorably and still enjoy it; but I like Proftville better.

The beauty of apps is that they are not $50 console games; Profitville HD is $4.99 and Tapper World HD is $2.99; for less than the cost of a pizza, if you like this genre you can get both.

I actually have no complaints about Profitville HD. I spent hours compulsively sorting everything from toys to poker chips to baseball bats and found not a single glitch. But, I do have a short wish list.

I would love to see Game Center integration or another way to brag, and the option to have multiple players save multiple games would be great, since this is a game the whole family can enjoy.

And, if I keep playing at this rate, I will be needing new levels in an update down the road, but this is a first version and 10tons doesn't abandon their games, so that's not a concern, just something to look forward to.

But, that’s about it. For the most part I hope they leave this beauty just the way it is.

If you are getting tired of swapping gems, popping bubbles and slicing produce, you have to check out Profitville. In fact, if you like action-packed puzzlers at all, stop reading and start playing. Profitville HD is a winner.
