Use Your iDevice As A Complete Finder For Your Files With Cloud Connect Pro
Cloud Connect Pro ($24.99) by Antecea Inc. is an app that acts like a Finder for multiple cloud services and even remote access to your computers and servers, right on your iPad and iPhone.
If you're like me, you probably have all of your files stored either on your computer or in the cloud, with services like Dropbox, Google Docs, or Box.net, right? Perhaps you use something like MobileMe, FTP, WebDav, or something else? Chances are, you're familiar and use at least one of those mentioned above. But how about accessing everything from any of these services in a single, universal app? That's what you get with Cloud Connect Pro.
In Cloud Connect Pro, if you have the proper settings for File Sharing and Screen Sharing on your Mac or PC, the app can connect automatically to them. Additionally, if you use stuff like WebDav, MobileMe, Dropbox and Google Docs, simply just hit the + next to "Saved Places" spot so you can login to whatever service you need.
When you have any of your servers set up, you can access all of your files. The app does it in an easy-to-navigate way that is very similar to the style of Mac OS X's Finder Column View. You can swipe the screen left and right to navigate between folders and subfolders, which is neat.
The app allows you to stream your music and movies, and edit basic text files, while viewing other documents. When listening to music with Cloud Connect Pro, you simply add it to a playlist and it will also continue playing in the background thanks to multitasking!
For certain file types, if you have another third party app installed that can view/edit it, there is even an "Open In..." option! All of your files can be emailed, renamed, copied, and deleted from within Cloud Connect Pro as well, making it feel like you're really at your computer or server. There are also ways to zip and unzip files, which can be real handy!
In addition to streaming files such as music and movies, everything can be downloaded to have a local copy on hand on your iPhone or iPad. Files can be bookmarked in case you need to reference it later as well.
I'm sure you're dying to know - what good is a document viewer if you can't print? Cloud Connect Pro also supports AirPrint, as well as a little tool called Easy Connect. This is a free, separate download that allows the use of Google Services to find your computer when you're away from home (great for desktop computers). Using Easy Connect will allow you the ability to print anywhere if Easy Connect is installed on your home machine.

Ok, great, you can access your files even when you're not in front of your computer. But how about being able to control your computer without needing to be in front of it via Screen Sharing? Yup, Cloud Connect Pro has that too. You'll have to have the correct settings on your machine, in which you then login with whatever user account credentials you have on it in Cloud Connect. You'll get buttons showing you if you can click stuff with the left or right button, access to the fn button and keyboard, and other controls for your computer.
Business users should be glad to know that Cloud Connect Pro also supports connecting to computers on corporate networks via VPN. There are also some other advanced settings, like an App Lock Passcode, Network Drive (your computer will find your iPad or iPhone as a network device), SSH, Mirror Display and more.
The only things I don't really care for are the faux dock at the bottom, but that doesn't affect the functionality of the app in any way.
Another thing to note is that if you are in a folder and tap and drag an item to move it, there's a high chance that the app will leave a "dead pixel" behind. This is not permanent though, as it seems to go away after going back to the home screen and re-entering the app. I have talked to the developers about this and they have an update on the way to remedy this minor issue. Aesthetic flaw only, no functionality is affected.
If you need a way to access all your files stored on your computer or in the cloud with some robust features to help it, complete with screen sharing, then definitely give Cloud Connect Pro a try. It may seem steep at $25, but this is a Universal app and can definitely make life easier if you need constant access to your important files.
