ARTREE ($0.99) by Hansol Huh Sit back, relax with iDevice in hand, listen to relaxing music and let ARTREE grow beautiful trees for you. It’s part art (enjoyment, more than creation) and part relaxation. It’s a great way to make custom wallpapers or simply get your zen on.
You can simply let the app do what it will, or you can go into the settings to customize your trees. Tap the branch icon in the bottom left corner. This allows you to set the trees’ parameters. Start at the top with “Flower”. Choose from five different blossoms. Use the sliders to determine whether your flowers will be Smaller or Bigger and whether you will have Less or More of them. The color is pre-set based on the color scheme you pick down below, but you can change it to any color of the rainbow if you like with the given palette. Next, choose “Leaf”. Again, you have five shapes, Smaller/Bigger and Less/More sliders, and a color palette. “Node” (or bark) gives you similar options, well, four instead of five different looks. “Background” gives you four different background textures and a color palette. “Tree” gives you five different branch styles from straight to curly to angular. “Color” lets you set the color scheme, though as mentioned above, you can change the individual colors of each part. Here you can also set Auto-Regrow on or off, as well as the Sound. The “i” for information icon tells you more about the app’s music track.
Back on the main screen, tap the spiral icon in the bottom center to re-start your tree at any time. Tap the flower icon on the bottom right to Save to Photos, Email, or Email (Hi-res).
In portrait mode, the app will create a single tree. In Landscape mode, you get a whole forest!

The developer tells me he is working on an exciting new update that will allow the user to draw their own trees. I am really looking forward to that! You can find more information about the app at the developer's website.
The version featured in this article is the iPhone/iPod touch one, but I have tested out the iPad version as well. Both apps work the same way. If you do own both kinds of devices and have to pick just one version to buy, I would go for the iPad one. With the iPad’s larger screen real estate, there’s simply more to love. But both versions are simply lovely.
