Quirky App of the Day: Drunk Sniper

April 29, 2011
I wish that this was about a drunk guy sitting on the bank of a creek, shooting at fish as they swim by while he teeters back and forth on his seat. I could even understand a distasteful, violent game of laying on the roof, shooting at various drunks as they crawl, amble, shuffle, and stumble across a street. This isn't either of them. This involves. . . urine. I'm not joking. The app Drunk Sniper is about aiming a jet of urine into the toilet without splashing it all over the place. The stream waves back and forth across the toilet, and you have to tilt the phone to make it aim straight in. There's a gauge of four beer glasses that steadily empty, with each glass representing a level. The higher the level, the more things wave and spin. Such as the toilet starting to move in level 2. That is the name and only aim of the game. Now, I'm torn with this app. First of all, I have the sense of humor as a twelve year old. There are still some words that give me the giggles, and I still laugh at various gas emissions. There's something about a game involving urine aim that tickles that inner-child obnoxiousness in me. However, as a female, I am utterly clueless as to the inner workings of standing up to relieve myself. I have no idea how legit this game simulation is. In fact, when I first started it, I was admittedly a little freaked out by the notion of having to aim at all, and I couldn't figure out how to do it. It took quite a few tries, and I'm horrible at it. My inability to score well in any sense whatsoever, I blame freely on the fact that I sit down with a Gameboy no matter how sober I am. I haven't paid the slightest bit of attention as to how well I'm doing in terms of aim, and this game has convinced me to stop complaining about not being able to, even if I want to. It's too much trouble. It detracts from my gameplay. So, I'll go ahead and keep my mess-free system while playing Drunk Sniper on my iPhone, and I'll let real life drunks everywhere deal with the true problem at 2AM in a bar near you. The Drunk Sniper App is available at the iTunes store for $0.99
