Showyou: “Flipboard For Videos” Arrives In App Store

There are many iOS apps already available that make it easy to connect with family and friends on Facebook or Twitter. However, the new universal Showyou app is different. Instead of rehashing posts or tweets, it shows you videos your friends and contacts are sharing on social networks. Think of Showyou as Flipboard for videos. Created by the folks behind Vodpod, Remixation, Inc., Showyou lets you see the videos shared by friends on Facebook, Twitter, and Vodpod. These videos may be sourced from YouTube, Vimeo, and TED. In the coming months, you will be able to access videos directly from their YouTube and Tumblr accounts as well. However, licensed material is a big no-no, and won’t be available. Plus, if you own an Apple TV (version 2.0), you can use the app with your television. Features include:

The Showyou Feed, where you can watch and talk about videos with your friends on Showyou

Find and follow your friends on Showyou, or invite them to get the app

Customize your Grid by inviting your friends, connecting to all your social networks, and following other Showyou members

When you see a video you love, share it on Showyou or your other social networks with a tap (Facebook, Twitter)

Tell your friends when you like a video they have shared by “thanking” them

Get notified when your friends thank you for sharing a video, or comment on a video you shared

What makes Showyou special isn’t so much what it does, but what is leaves out. Trying to find videos on social networking sites can be tedious and time-consuming. Showyou takes the guesswork out of this and puts the videos you want to see all in one place. According to TechCrunch, Showyou will eventually allow users to share and view videos from different publishers than those mentioned above, as long as their HTML5 and iOS capable.
