Squid Drop: Doodle Jump Upside Down?

Squid Drop ($0.99) by Nor Eagle gives deep sea diving a whole new meaning. Squid aren't normally cute, but this one sure is. While he tries to sink to the depths of the ocean (as all good squid are supposed to) the creatures of the ocean deep try to stop him - they must have acquired a taste for ink.

The point of this ocean-themed game is for you to guide "Squiddy" (that's what I call him) through monsters and objects as he free falls. The controls are very smooth - I was a little surprised at how responsive they were. This is the kind of game that makes you open your eyes wide and sit on the edge of your seat in concentration - keeping "Squiddy" alive is not as easy as it sounds.

Unlike most people, I found Doodle Jump rather annoying. I don't like "tilt to control" games - I always end up over correcting myself and constantly having to restart levels. Thankfully, Squid Drop controls are run by a single finger and I found this game much more enjoyable.

Global leader boards keep you motivated and add a great level of friendly competition. As you progress, more obstacles and ocean perils will challenge you. If you have quick reaction skills, you'll probably excel at this game.

I do have two complains thought. First, the graphics could be sharper. It seems a bit pixelated at times, but hopefully this will improve in a future update. Secondly, I wish there was a quick and easy "restart level" button.

Squid Drop is a delightful game that has been lovingly created by Ben, an indie-developer who spent spare moments on his commutes to and from work on the train hunched over his computer writing code as quickly as he could in his spare time. His hard work has definitely paid off.
