Time Warner Adds Discovery, Fox Channels To Streaming App, Two Weeks After Pulling Them
April 15, 2011
Time Warner has quietly added some Discovery and Fox channels to its TWCable app for the iPad, while also adding some new ones. This update comes two weeks after the cable giant voluntarily pulled some of those same channels from its streaming service after receiving a cease and desist letter from the two networks.
According to two separate postings on its Untangled website, Time Warner announced it added Fox’s National Geographic Channel, FX, and Fox News Channel. From Discovery, TWCable users can stream the Discovery Channel, TLC, and Animal Planet.
Beyond making the channels available, Time Warner provided no further details on the move. Therefore, we don't know if they did so with approval from the two networks or not.
The Fox News Channel and Animal Planet are being made available for streaming for the first time, as are four additional channels.
These include: Sundance Channel, Wedding Central, Lifetime Real Women and Military History Channel.
One network not part of today’s roundup is Viacom, which also saw its programming pulled from the TWCable app on April 1. Since then, legal challenges have been filed by both entertainment giants over who owns the rights to streaming live TV content.
Viacom is also fighting with Cablevision over its Optimum for iPad app.
