Ultrasn0w iPhone Unlocking Tool Updated For iOS 4.3.1 Support

April 10, 2011
Following the release of the iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak, the iPhone Dev Team just updated its unlocking tool, Ultrasn0w, for the new firmware. However, don't get your hopes too high, as Ultrasn0w 1.2.1 is not a new unlock. This is simply an update that allows those who preserved an unlockable baseband (by using PwnageTool and TinyUmbrella for example) to continue using their iPhone on any carrier. So, if you've been using Ultrasn0w this far, you can now safely update through Pwnagetool to iOS 4.3.1 and install the unlock from Cydia. What about those of you who updated their baseband and can't use ultrasn0w? Well, the Dev-Team hasn't revealed much about the progress of the new unlock. All we know is that they might have found a way to restore (downgrade) basebands back to the original unlockable one, which would have the same result. Yet, we have no ETA or further details. Here is the official release:
We’ve pushed out the 4.3.1 compatibility fix for ultrasn0w in Cydia — it’s now at version 1.2.1.  If you’re not already at 4.3.1 and you need the unlock, please be sure you understand how to get to 4.3.1 using a custom IPSW that doesn’t update your baseband. There are lots of guides for this (like at iClarified.com). This isn’t a new unlock!  It’s to allow those who are already using ultrasn0w to use FW 4.3.1. It also fixes the signal bar issue for those who aren’t using the unlock but retain an older baseband intentionally. AFTER INSTALLING ULTRASN0W 1.2.1, PLEASE REBOOT YOUR iPHONE using the normal “slide to power off” swipe.  T-Mobile users in the USA also should disable 3G mode in Settings->General->Network. A big thanks to @sbingner and @ronaldsb for helping with the testing of this update!
Have you tried it out? Tell us how it went in the comments!
