Take A Joy Ride With Bumpy Road
Bumpy Road ($2.99) by Simogo is an enjoyable game for all ages where the goal is to safely guide your characters on a casual drive. Bumpy Road has a Mario style of play where you move along picking up objects and avoiding hazards along the way. The control method of this game is what makes it so unique.
To play, you roll your car along by moving the road. Swipe vertically to elevate the road so your car will move either forward or backward. As you move the road, it sounds like you are playing a keyboard, which adds a rather cute effect. Along the way, there are blocks and gizmos to pick up that will do various things such as give you turbo speed, more time, or a special memory. The background music is clever as your car moves along its path. It is reminiscent of a carnival ride.
There are three different modes: Evergreen Ride, Sunday Trip and Memory Lane. Evergreen Ride has challenges such as jumps and water to avoid. Sunday Trip requires speed to reach the end of the drive as quickly as possible. Memory Lane will play a film with pictures of your various drives, as long as you picked up the right gizmos along the way. This is an incentive to continue to play as your film will become longer and longer.
Right now, there are only two different drives you can take. There is some replay value because you may not always pick up every block and gizmo, or you can beat your previous time. I hope the developer will create additional levels to provide more variety and options in the game.
Bumpy Road is a universal app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. It is a bit more expensive than other games of similar caliber, but the universal aspect helps make it worthwhile. Bumpy Road is very charming and worth checking out before your next Sunday afternoon joyride.
