Carcassonne Update Adds Game Center Support, Improves And Corrects Minor Issues

May 19, 2011
Way back in December, The Coding Monkeys informed dedicated Carcassonne fans that work had started on adding Game Center support and those really, really long-awaited expansion packs. Now, around five months later, at least one of those two things are finally available for you to enjoy. Today's update to Carcassonne adds Game Center support, complete with a bunch of different leaderboards and achievements. The game includes a total of eight leaderboards, ranging from total wins to max ELO amongst friends. It also includes a healthy 43 achievements, rewarding you for completing the solitaire tutorial, collecting over 100,000 total points, and everything in between. Leaderboards and achievements appear to be retroactive, although you will have to enable your Game Center account within the game before all of your hard work can be accounted for. The update to Carcassonne now allows you to share scores via Twitter or Facebook, invite your previous opponents, and makes account switching much easier. It also corrects an ELO scoring bug, improves stability, improves chat reliability, adds time stamps to chats, improves power consumption, and adds a sync progress overlay. As for those pesky expansion packs, here's where The Coding Monkeys stand on that:
There’s also news about the long awaited expansions: We have made good progress laying the foundations for all expansions and getting the game to a point were it can be played in a more modular fashion to support cherry-picking rules and features of expansions in the future. After the Game Center update, we now will concentrate on polishing the first two of the expansions we’re going to release. Namely “Inns and Cathedrals” and “The River II”. It will still take us a few months to make them as good as we want them to be, however.
So, what do you think? Can you hang in there for a few more months? Carcassonne v2.2 for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad is now available in the App Store for $9.99.
