Cosmic Pool Simulates Zero-Gravity 8 Ball
Cosmic Pool ($1.99) by FunWithElectricity takes a creative spin on pool. There's no pool table and no gravity - and if you are no good at aiming, you can still score big. Strategy is the key element here.
Cosmic Pool is more about strategy than finding the right angle on your own. Choose to play within a cube, sphere or pyramid. Pockets are located on the "shell" of the geometric shape. After you break, you will be assigned solids or stripes and will need to begin choosing which ball(s) to target first.
Like I mentioned before, Cosmic Pool has taken the angle challenge out of the game. You choose which ball to target and the game automatically figures the best angle. This might sound like a bad move on the developer's part, but when you consider the difficulty of aiming correctly in a zero-gravity, 3 dimensional environment, the possibility of making shots seems like it would be nigh on impossible.
The angles and projected path of each shot is simulated while you choose which ball(s) to hit on your turn. Easily "erase" an angle with the handy back button. You cannot control how hard or soft your shot is, so you just hit the bulls eye button to go. I do wish the force was a bit more customizable.
One major issue I did have with the game was its lack of intuitive play. I highly recommend reading through the tutorial even though it is a bit lengthy (a voice over narrative would be nice). This will save you frustration.
The graphics are nice to look at and the game is universal. If you own an iPad, I suggest you try the game there first. If you play on an iPhone, you can zoom in and out without a problem.
The game offers one or two player mode, but no wifi or bluetooth multiplayer mode yet. This would be a nice feature to have available and I hope to see that in a future update.
