Don’t Trust New “Apple” Email
May 23, 2011
A new phishing scam is making its rounds, and we thought it best to advise our loyal readers of its existence. A new email purportedly from Apple is being sent to unsuspecting customers claiming that the “iPhone 5GS” has arrived. If you receive the email, don’t click on it and here is why.
Never mind that Apple has yet to release any iPhone 5 model, the “iPhone 5GS” email flying around does look authentic enough. This is especially true for those who aren’t checking the latest Apple RSS feeds and know with 100 percent certainty that a new iPhone isn't yet available.
By clicking on the email, unsuspecting readers will download a Windows executable littered of viruses and malware, according to Cult of Mac. Of course, Mac users have nothing to worry about, but we would still advise not to click on the email.
Just to be clear: There is NO iPhone 5. Until Steve Jobs announces one himself, there will also be NO Apple email stating the handset's release.
