Everyday Looper Makes Looping Music Fun And Easy
Everyday Looper ($5.99) by Mancing Dolecules recently got an update and now it's better than ever. This wonderful app has been making a splash in the app store for a while; and for good reason.
Everyday Looper is a recording app that allows you to record up to four musical phrases (on the iPhone/iPod Touch) and up to six on the iPad. You can mix them, merge them, loop them right away. The possibilities seem to be endless.
I admit it, I was more than a little excited to get to take a close look at this app. If you have seen any of the YouTube videos the developer has put out, you know it is something to get excited about.
When you first open the app, there is an instructional screen that explains which gestures you need to do to play, pause, record, merge, get back to the main menu, etc. After exiting that screen I wished I had paid a little closer attention. I had to try every gesture I could think of to get back to the main menu to see that tutorial again - finally figured I had to swipe from track 1 to track 3.
Once I learned the gestures better, it was time to record. I have some musical training, so I sang four part melodies and even added more to that. It was an absolute blast. I used the native microphone on my iPhone, and the sound quality was ok, but it is much better if you use an external mic.
For those of you who would like to know what technical options it offers, here's what it boasts: • Overdub recording • Chained recording • Button-free user interface • Auto-normalisation • Master limiter • Track merging • Audio copy/paste • Track muting • Metronome • Latency compensation • Wifi export • 4 tracks (on iPhone) and 6 tracks (on iPad)
Don't let the price turn you off. This app is worth it if you are a musician. However, if you are not much of a singer, beat boxer, rapper or don't play any instruments well it may not be as much fun for you.
