Now That Is Funny: Pandora Radio Adds Comedy To Its Lineup
May 5, 2011
Pandora, the free Internet radio service, is adding a few jokes to its repertoire of music. Beginning this week, the service, which is available online and through a free universal app, now includes 10,000 clips by 700 comedians. The addition of comedy channels is automatic and doesn't require an app update.
According to a message on the company’s blog, they state:
Adding comedians to the mix has been one of the top requests from our listeners, so we've taken the same approach to comedy as we have to music: carefully and deliberately analyzing comedic "bits" across a very large number of attributes to capture the style, delivery and content of each performance.”Among the comedians featured are Chris Rock, Richard Pryor, Rodney Dangerfield, and Jerry Seinfeld. Clips are organized by categories including Today’s Comedy, Comedy Icons, and Political Comedy. In total, Pandora offers 16 different Comedy stations. Before attempting to play a comedy clip or channel for the first time, Pandora warns listens that the content isn't necessarily appropriate for children, and it isn't. Pandora, which is only available in the United States, allow users to select a song or artist, which the service uses to play selections which are musically similar. It's nice to see Pandora expanding its offerings. It is a great way to listen to music (and now comedy) for absolutely free. The Pandora app is available now.
