Illusion Labs Releases Touchgrind BMX, The Sequel To Their Hit Multitouch Extreme Sports Game
May 26, 2011
Touchgrind BMX, the sequel to Illusion Labs' hit multitouch extreme sports game, is now available in the App Store. It utilizes the same revolutionary controls that made the original game so popular, but features much more depth and two fewer wheels.
Touchgrind BMX does away with the skateboards and the top-down perspective, and instead has you controlling tricked out bikes from a third-person view. But like the original, two fingers are required to play. Your middle finger, or leading finger, controls the bike's handle bars while your back finger, or index finger, controls the frame.
This control scheme allows you to throw some huge and complicated tricks, but it will take some getting used to. Because of the steep learning curve, I recommend checking out the three tutorial videos included in the game even if you are a seasoned Touchgrind veteran, as they help explain the ins and outs of throwing crazy spins, whips, and flips with your bike.
Instead of a single open-world environment like the original game, Touchgrind BMX features five linear tracks filled with massive jumps and tubes. Throwing multiple tricks in a single jump will cause your multiplier to shoot up, and if you do so consecutively, you'll be able to post some huge scores. Each course also has a variety of challenges that, when completed, will award you with adrenaline which unlocks new courses, bikes, and paint.
Touchgrind BMX also provides you with the ability to show off your mad BMX skills with its replay system. After completing a run, you can choose to analyze your run from different angles, or you can access the replays menu and save your favorite video, which will allow you to upload it to YouTube or transfer it to your computer via iTunes File Sharing.
What it all boils down to is this: If you enjoyed the original Touchgrind, even just a little, you will absolutely love Touchgrind BMX. Sure, it does away with the open environments, but it easily makes up for the loss with multiple well designed tracks, gorgeous graphics, a rewarding learning curve, and a straightforward replay system.
Touchgrind BMX for iPhone and iPod touch is now available in the App Store for $4.99.
